Hi, I’m Melissa —a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, and researcher with a passion for helping people build a healthy relationship with food. I hold degrees in Neuroscience, Nutrition and Food Science (Dietetics), and an MSc in Kinesiology specializing in Nutrition, Genetics, and Metabolism. My research focuses on gut health—specifically how the gut microbiota develops in early life, and how these microbial communities influence metabolism, mental health, and brain function. This work fuels my evidence-based approach, blending the latest science with proven strategies, all tailored to your needs, preferences, and lifestyle.

I believe nutrition counselling should be judgment-free, compassionate, and practical—because healthy eating isn’t about perfection, it’s about finding what works for you. Clients often tell me they appreciate my easy-going nature, genuine care, and ability to make nutrition feel less overwhelming and more enjoyable.

Outside of work, I’m a proud dog and horse mom, and I’m most well-known for my love of snacks (you don’t become a dietitian if you don’t love snacks!). Why Prairie Bloom Wellness?
The name Prairie Bloom Wellness reflects both my roots and my philosophy. “Prairie” honours my home in Alberta and my love for its wide-open landscapes, resilience, and natural beauty. “Bloom” speaks to growth and thriving—both in nature and in the world of gut microbiota, where nurturing the right conditions allows healthy communities to flourish. And “Wellness” reminds us that true health is about more than just what’s on your plate—it’s about supporting your body, mind, and life as a whole. Together, these words capture my mission: to help you grow, thrive, and feel your best in a way that’s deeply rooted in both science and compassion.
